Officers in the Wichita Police Department’s Patrol North bureau will be delivering Thanksgiving dinners to families in northeast Wichita again this year.

For the 6th year in a row, the officers will be assisted in the project by men from the Union Rescue Mission’s New Beginnings program that allows participants to be on the giving rather than receiving end of assistance.
Monday, officers at Wichita’s Patrol North are moving boxes.
This year, sixty families who would have done without thanksgiving dinner will get one.
Each box holds a meal.
Union Rescue Mission donates the turkeys, pies and fixings and Wichita police officers hand-deliver them.
Mesha McDonald-Johnson was surprised to see officer Paul Kimble at her front door.
But relieved, Mesha says she needs the food but is hesitant to get help.
And she didn’t have to ask.
Officer Kimble says he meets people like Mesha often while out on the job.
Just like Mesha, he writes down their name and puts it on a list.
“When we do identify them, we try to provide them with thanksgiving dinner so that they don’t have to worry about that,” says Officer Paul Kimble.
Wade McCoy wasn’t planning much for this holiday, until officer Kimble showed up at his door.
“Just to help those who are kind of struggling and going through a hard time right now and delivering. it’s a special occasion,” says Wade McCoy.
And Kimble knows they will appreciate it even more once the meal is on the table.
