A burglary, a fight, and a vehicle in flames. It all began around one-thirty Friday afternoon. That’s when Wichita police say a man broke into a home near West 37th and Arkansas. It ended near 53rd and Porter, when the suspect crashed his truck into a tree.
“I can’t verbally explain the hatred and aggression I have for this person right now,” said Jason Kurtz.
He’s talking about the man who broke into his childhood home and beat up his brother.
“This guy came lunging out of my mom and dad’s room, knocked him into the computer room door, threw him on the ground and started punching,” said Kurtz.
Eventually the man ran off, but Jason’s brother tried to fight back.
“He ran downstairs, grabbed his gun, and saw the guy was already gone, so he fired off a round to let him know it is best that he doesn’t come back here,” said Kurtz.
Within minutes, police were able to track down the suspect in his white Durango, because they were already in the area, responding to a burglary call at the house right next door to the Kurtz’s.
“The cops were right behind him,” said Austin Crutcher, who lives near the crash scene. ”They had their guns drawn on him.”
The suspect was taken to the hospital for minor injuries. Jason Kurtz said he is glad the man is off the streets. Still he can’t get over what happened to his brother.
“There’s not going to be enough jail time for his actions, for what he did today.”
