A man whom police clocked on radar at speeds of up to 100 mph on Kellogg crashed into a second pickup stopped at a red light Friday morning, snarling traffic in east Wichita for hours.

The 29-year-old driver was booked into the Sedgwick County Jail after being treated at Wesley Medical Center, Sgt. James Krok said.

The driver of the second pickup, a 47-year-old man, was also taken to Wesley, but his injuries were not critical.

The incident began at 10:50 a.m., when an officer clocked an eastbound Ford F150 going 100 mph near the Oliver exit.

“He tried to catch up to him, but the guy had a head start on him,” Krok said.

The pursuit continued past Armour and Rock Road before the F150 struck a Toyota pickup that was stopping for the light at Cypress, on the freeway’s east end.

The collision knocked the Toyota into the air and it rolled a couple of times, Krok said. Other vehicles may have been struck by debris, he said, but none were hit by either pickup.

Eastbound traffic was down to one lane between Rock Road and Cypress for about three hours before reopening.
